Is it ok to take a girl to a nice restaurant on a first date?

this girl likes me and I like her, and since I really like her I want to spend extra money and take her to a nice restaurant and try to be romantic without creeping her out, instead of taking her to like Outback Steakhouse, I want to go the extra mile and take her somewhere nice and then for drinks...is this too much for a first date even if we both like each other?
